1. 96 Mhz Contest

Event Update:
Elimination round shall be a written test comprising of 20 (or more)
questions all of MCQ( Multiple Choice Question )type. The questions
shall be largely Communication Engg. oriented(only basics) and shall
involve no math calculations!No negative marks for wrong answers.
Participants expected to bring their own pen/pencils/erasers etc. on
the 17th February 2005.

Event Description:

  • Herein, a team (not comprising of more than 2 persons) will have to build a small, short range simple FM radio transmitter (low power, non-commercial type) with their own design during the event and enable it to transmit voice signals at 96 MHz.
  • A drift of few 1* MHz on either sides of the center frequency will be allowed.
  • A team must be able to transmit their FM signal at least up to a radius of 15 to 20* meters.
  • All teams will have to build their model within a stipulated time (which will be sufficient to build one). The teams then shall be tested for the quality of signal transmission of their model clearly on the basis of clarity of voice transmitted. The reception of signal shall be done using a standard FM radio receiver, by the judges/organizers.
  • One winner shall be chosen considering the above-mentioned criteria as well as the neatness of connections made, design chosen etc.
  • Teams will have to come prepared with their design on a paper beforehand. No ready to assemble kits shall be provided and neither should the participants bring one with them.

SCREENING:

  • No screening round shall be kept for this contest unless the turn out of participants exceeds a limit. In that case a written elimination round shall be held. Participants shall be informed before hand about this.

Keeping in mind many designs for a simple, low-power short range FM transmitter are possible.
