IEEE VESIT Wins International Website Contest
Mumbai, Wednesday, 13th July

IEEE VESIT(Vivekananda Education Society’s Institute of Technology, Chembur), Mumbai takes the glory of winning the 2005 IEEE Student Branch International Web designing contest. The web designing team comprised of Nilay Kothari, Naveen Shetty and Tushar Kale. IEEE VESIT had earlier won the IEEE Region 10 (Asia -Pacific) Website Contest and had qualified for the world level competition.

We would like to congratulate the Webmasters and all the members at IEEE VESIT for this big achievement.

IEEE VESIT(Vivekananda Education Society’s Institute of Technology, Chembur), Mumbai takes the glory of winning the IEEE Student Branch International Web designing contest. IEEE VESIT is a student branch of IEEE ( Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA) and aims at achieving excellence through innovation. The IEEE is a non-profit, technical professional association of more than 360,000 individual members in approximately 175 countries. . The institute strives to encourage, organize, and sponsor technical activities all over the world. The main objective is to advance the theory and practice in the fields of electronics, electrical engineering, and computer science and engineering.

The web designing team headed by Nilay Kothari comprised of Tushar Kale and Naveen Shetty . The website(www.ieee-vesit.org) had also won Asia Pacific (Region 10) Web Designing Contest thus qualifying to the world level. The unique feature of the website is that it can be accessed and used by the blind and visually impaired people as well. The website can also be accessed on the mobile phones through a WAP site. The website is available in 8 different languages in order to reach out to as many people as possible worldwide. English is the main language and other languages are French, Spanish, German, Italian, Korean, Chinese and Japanese.

The contest at Asia Pacific level(Region 10) witnessed participation of more than 50 countries covering a geographical area stretching from South Korea and Japan in the north-east to New Zealand in the south, and Pakistan in the west. At world level the 10 websites from the 10 regions all over the world competing to get the top award. But IEEE VESIT emerged as a winner in both the contests by defeating colleges like IIT, UTM(The University of Tennessee at Martin) , University of Melbourne etc.

This achievement is like the icing on the cake because IEEE-VESIT is the first Indian team to have a taste of international acclaim and fame.
